1. 4-Cyanoindole is a versatile synthetic intermediate used in the preparation of various biologically active compounds, including anticancer immunomodulators and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
2. It serves as a key reactant for iridium-catalyzed borylation, Friedel-Crafts alkylation, and the synthesis of N-aryl indoles.
3. The 4-cyanoindole core is also used to create fluorescent nucleoside analogues for studying DNA and RNA structures and dynamics.
