1. Neopentyl glycol is a synthetic organic compound industrially produced via the aldol reaction of formaldehyde and isobutyraldehyde, creating the intermediate hydroxypivaldehyde.
2. Hydroxypivaldehyde is then converted to Neopentyl glycol by either a Cannizzaro reaction with excess formaldehyde or by hydrogenation using palladium on carbon as a catalyst.
