Rapid curing shortens the production cycle, which is its primary advantage. In the mass production of automotive parts, traditional adhesives require 24 hours to fully cure, resulting in long production line occupancy times and low turnover efficiency. Solvent-based polyurethane adhesives with added Desmodur RFE, however, reach 80% curing strength in 4-6 hours at room temperature, allowing for earlier entry into the next process and increasing production line turnover efficiency by more than 3 times. Even in low-temperature environments (15℃), the curing time only extends to 8 hours, far superior to Desmodur RC (which requires more than 12 hours at low temperatures), significantly reducing inventory pressure and production energy consumption for enterprises.

Taking solvent-based polyurethane adhesives as an example, a simplified formulation framework and analysis of key influencing factors are provided for companies to refer to and adjust.

The basic formulation can be formulated according to the ratio of "Desmodur RFE: Desmocoll® polyurethane resin: ethyl acetate = 1:8:15": Desmodur RFE acts as a crosslinking agent; although its proportion is low, it directly determines the crosslinking density. Too high a proportion can lead to increased adhesive brittleness, while too low a proportion will prevent the adhesive from achieving its temperature resistance advantage. Desmocoll® resin is the main film-forming substance, and its grade needs to be adjusted according to the bonding material (e.g., Desmocoll 540 for bonding metals, Desmocoll 130 for bonding leather). Ethyl acetate acts as a solvent, controlling the overall viscosity to suit spraying or brushing processes.

Furthermore, the polymer content and antioxidants in the formulation also affect the final performance: too high a polymer content (resin + Desmodur RFE) will lead to poor adhesive flow and uneven coating, while too low a content will result in insufficient bond strength; it is recommended to control it at 30%-35%. Adding 0.5%-1% antioxidants (such as 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol) can further improve the adhesive's anti-aging ability, making it particularly suitable for outdoor bonding products.

In summary, Desmodur RFE, with its compatibility with specific adhesives, outstanding performance advantages, and flexible formulation adjustment capabilities, has become the preferred crosslinking agent in the industrial bonding field.
