1. p-Toluenesulfonyl isocyanate is primarily used as a derivatization reagent in analytical chemistry for the determination of various compounds including diethylene glycol, propylene glycol, and 3-α-hydroxy tibolone in pharmaceutical products by HPLC and LC-MS/MS.
2. p-Toluenesulfonyl isocyanate serves as a reagent in organic synthesis for preparing acetylated syn-1,2-diols, oxazolidin-2-ones, 2,3-diamino acids, and N-tosylcarbonamides.
3. p-Toluenesulfonyl isocyanate is also used as a water scavenger in polyurethane coatings, sealants, and adhesives, where p-Toluenesulfonyl isocyanate effectively removes moisture from paint formulations.

1. Wear protective gloves (chemical-resistant), safety goggles with side-shields or face shield, and protective clothing when handling p-Toluenesulfonyl isocyanate to prevent skin and eye contact.
2. Use adequate ventilation such as a chemical fume hood when handling p-Toluenesulfonyl isocyanate, and wear respiratory protection (organic gases and vapours filter, Type A, brown) if exposure limits are exceeded.
3. Wash hands thoroughly after handling p-Toluenesulfonyl isocyanate, wash contaminated clothing before reuse, and keep p-Toluenesulfonyl isocyanate away from food and beverages.
1. If inhaled, move the person exposed to p-Toluenesulfonyl isocyanate to fresh air, keep comfortable for breathing, and get medical attention if symptoms occur; if not breathing, give artificial respiration.

1. Store p-Toluenesulfonyl isocyanate in a tightly closed container in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, with recommended storage temperature of 2-8°C or below 15°C in a cool, dark place.
2. Store p-Toluenesulfonyl isocyanate under an inert atmosphere because p-Toluenesulfonyl isocyanate is air sensitive and moisture sensitive.
3. p-Toluenesulfonyl isocyanate may deposit white solids during storage, and it is recommended to use all of the material as soon as possible upon receiving it; stock solutions should be stored at -20°C for up to 1 month or at -80°C for up to 6 months.
