1. Polyglycolide is a synthetic, biodegradable, thermoplastic aliphatic polyester first synthesized in 1954 and is produced via ring-opening polymerization of glycolide (the cyclic dimer of glycolic acid).
2. Polyglycolide is manufactured using stannous octoate (FDA-approved as a food stabilizer) as the most common catalyst, with high molecular weight polymer produced under nitrogen atmosphere at 195-230°C.
3. Polyglycolide is commercially produced with CAS Registry Number 26124-68-5 (or 26009-03-0) and molecular formula (C₂H₂O₂)ₙ, and is available from chemical suppliers worldwide.
1. If inhaled (dust), move the person exposed to Polyglycolide to fresh air and consult a physician if breathing difficulty or irritation develops.
